Welcome to Bear Dog Ranch Tahoe!

Your trusted resource for Karelian Bear Dogs a.k.a. "KBDs"

Sasha & Cooper had 12 healthy puppies on June 17th, 2023!

We kept one female “Keera” To carry on this extraordinary genetic line. When Keera is age 2, we will seek out a Sire for her with similar extraordinary genetics.

In the meantime, please note we have a new phone number. 775-781-4322.

You can read about us and our goal with furthering this extraordinary line.

Puppies vaccinated regularly. These pups have been VERY well cared for and loved. It shows in the quality of their shiny coats, training and relationship to humans. We will inquire about your environment to help ensure appropriate placement. If deemed appropriate, a $300 non-refundable deposit will reserve your pup of choice for 72 hours while you make arrangements for final payment, your travel plans to pick-up or to secure estimated shipping costs. (They sell for $4,500 at other breeders.) Inquire about pricing by texting Adrienne at 775-781-4322. We want the best placement for them because we love them. We offer a 10% discount for military, veterans and law enforcement with proof of service.

We recommend that you research the characteristics of any breed of dog before you take one home. Do you live in bear-country? A KBD may be very helpful with keeping bears away from your home. Known for being great hunters, extremely agile, highly intelligent, intuitive, and engaging with often hilarious facial expressions, these dogs make fantastic companions for humans +++so much personality+++. Our experience is that they have a sense of humor too! Other unique features are eyes set forward like a primate, and we love that curly tail!

Our dogs are 100% purebred KBD. Sire "Cooper" is AKC registered. Dam "Sasha" doesn't have her AKC registration yet, though we are working on that. She has a genetic test showing 100% pure KBD, with exceptionally diverse (strong) genetics. Wait until you see where the average KDB is on the bell curve, and where she is. It's quite impressive. Genetic tests are as important as AKC registration. We are happy to share all historic and genetic profiles with prospective buyers. If that isn't enough, these two KBD's actually love each other. They snuggle and kiss all the time.

As you conduct your internet research, or join KBD social media groups, prepare to encounter some who have strong opinions about everything from "devaluing the breed" by crossing with the breeds to which country has "the best" KBDs, etc. Our philosophy is that there is merit in maintaining the "purebred KBD." We seek to pair dogs with good genetics. Our goals are straightforward and simple; further the breed and help each one of our pups find a loving and appropriate home or a working ranch with some "jobs" to do.

Helpful Tip - There are breeders out there who may have inbred or poorly bred. Each prospective buyer can review Cooper's AKC registration or Sasha's genetic testing. A positive rapport with your breeder should make the transaction "feel right." If something doesn't feel right, keep looking.

Trust is Everything

At Bear Dog Ranch Tahoe, we are dedicated to breeding healthy and well-socialized Karelian Bear Dogs. Our dogs are raised in a spacious and secure environment on 5 acres of double-fenced property ensuring their physical and mental well-being. We also provide training and exposure to various farm animals and pets, preparing them for successful placement in loving homes.

  • We have indoor and outdoor kennels that are meticulously maintained and subject to random inspection.

  • We feed our dogs top-quality food with salmon, duck, lamb or beef.

  • Our training ability depends on how much time we have with each pup. We use a combination of voice and hand commands.

  • We use positive reinforcement alternating treats, petting, praise and hugs.

  • Educational goals include hand and verbal cues such as "come" "leave it" "potty goes outside" "sit" "stay" "look at me" and "quiet please."

  • We cannot promise all educational goals will resonate with your pup but you should know what we are working on so that when you take over, you can continue with these words or phrases.

  • As you train your pup, always remember these 3 things:

    1) Repetition is the mother of learning.

    2) Be consistent.

    3) Don't give up.

Probably every dog you have ever owned went through "puppy chewing" until about age two. It's up to you to create an environment that is safe, and where they are not tempted to chew any sacred shoes. ;)

"Sasha" during pre-labor.

Anxious father-to-be (Sire) "Cooper" is not allowed in the whelping room. Nibbles on his fish from the toy basket.

Our dogs are part of our family. We love them which is why applications for ownership will be screened for appropriate placement.
